Adoption Ceremony

On Thursday, June 27, we had our official adoption ceremony back at the Civil Affairs office. The director read a proclamation, and then we had our picture taken.

Ava had a bit of a rough night and was crabby in the morning. I think the visit to the orphanage was hard on her, and she was grieving a bit. She also started drooling a ton, and we discovered she was cutting some new teeth!

After the short ceremony was over, our guide took us to an embroidery museum and shop. Hunan province is known for its embroidery. We couldn't take pictures of the pieces they had in the small museum. They were stunning and breath taking. It was like looking at either a photograph or oil painting. Some of the pictures were huge too! Several of the museum pieces took 3-5 years to complete. We bought Ava a small two sided embroidered piece in a wood frame. It is beautiful. We wanted her to have something from her province to bring home.

It was raining very hard so we weren't able to go see any other sights. There is a beautiful park in Changsha that we really want to see, but the weather is not cooperating. So we headed back to our hotel for a lunch of ramen noodles cooked in the ice bucket.

Ava also had her first PB and jelly sandwich. She loved it!

After a fitful nap, we were going a bit stir crazy. It was still raining cats and dogs, so we took Ava up to the gym to run off some energy. There is a tennis court and two badminton courts.

These two men had a competitive game of badminton going. The last set of volleys was long and amazing. When the cock finally hit the ground, we applauded them! They were both very good!

Still bored and looking for things to do, we headed to the smokey lobby to let Ava run back and forth on the bridge. She loved this bridge!

Tired of eating PB and noodles in our room, we decided to venture down to Food Street, a restaurant in our hotel. This restaurant had sample dishes set out in front of each of the cooking areas. This way, you could just point to what you want. Being novices and not sure how it worked, we ended up ordering way too much. Luckily, it was inexpensive and was only $20 US.

Ava continues to astound us with her eating. The girl can eat and loves to eat! She had us laughing when she picked up her bowl and start slurping the noodles. The Chinese couple next to us thought it was awesome too!

To finish off the night, she had her first oreo!

Today was a hard day for me. Ava was more emotional which made me more emotional. When video chatting with the boys this morning, I got all choked up and started crying. I miss them so much. We are ready to move on to GZ so that we can be one step closer to home.
