Evan's dedication

This morning we dedicated Evan and ourselves at church. Greg Meyers, the Children's Minister, shared a few words prior to the dedication. He shared that this weekend was the first time in his ministry where all the dedications involved parents who had previously dedicated children. He shared that he felt God challenging him this week with these circumstances. He said "these families could have chosen to not dedicate again because they have already dedicated themselves previously." He shared that it is an encouragement to see families continue to dedicate themselves and their children as a symbol of their faith in God.

While the thought of not dedicating Evan (because we had already dedicated ourselves through Trevor's dedication) never crossed my mind, I thought that Greg had a good point. By dedicating Evan, we were reminded and re-enforcing our desires to follow God's call on our lives. We want our children to grow up in a house full of love that finds its' root in God's love for us. We also want to be Godly parents that are role-models for our children; teaching them thankfulness and contentment, responsibility, love, compassion, thoughtfulness, serving, self-control, self-discipline, learning and knowing God's love for them.

Jeremy and I talked about Evan's dedication, and we wanted to have a scripture that tied into his dedication. Jeremy felt that God placed Jeremiah 29:11 on his heart, and we both agreed that it speaks about how God wants to be a part of Evan's and our future.

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to propser you and not to harm you, plans to give you a future and hope."

Our prayer for us and Evan:

Thank you God for blessing us with Evan. We dedicate his life to you today. We pray for strength and courage to raise him in Your commands so that he may truly know Your love and Your son, Jesus. We also promise to continue to lead our lives so that we are examples of Your will. Help us to train him in your ways. We pray that Evan will keep your commands in his heart, and entrust his future to You. Amen.
