Happy 60th Birthday Dad

Today is Dad/Papa's 60th Birthday! In honor of him, I've decided to dedicate this blog to him. I've compiled a list (with a little help from Jeremy and Trevor) of 60 things that we LOVE about Dad/Papa.

1. role model and example of how to have a loving marriage and family

2. Christian father

3. led me to Christ

4. baptized Jeremy

5. loving

6. compassionate

7. caring

8. encourager

9. willing to give guidance

10. gives good advice

11. listened to God's calling on his life

12. Christian Leader

13. social awareness

14. perfectionist

15. takes good care of his belongings

17. helps us with yard work - too many projects to list; good memories of all!

18. good vegetable gardener

19. good flower and tree gardener; all around green thumb!

20. cares about the environment

21. not afraid to stand up for what he believes in

22. outgoing and friendly

24. good example of healthful living

25. invited me to ride bike when he ran

26. Saturday morning donuts from Sutton's (a special treat)

27. Dad's Special - recipe he concocted with Bob Godown

28. Sunday night popcorn

29. peanut butter fanatic

30. camping and pie iron pizzas - yummy!

31. took us on great family vacations that emphasized togetherness and the outdoors

32. helped with raising and showing sheep

33. got us the family dog - Kye - on a Saturday in early fall. Still remember the drive to Greenville to pick out Kye at the shelter. He was a little fuzz ball.

34. Saturday and/or Sunday afternoons at the West Alexandria pool; riding our bikes there

35. "Big Red Machine" truck and putting it in the ditch after a snow storm

36. invited Grandpa Norman to our house in West Alex for Christmases

37. hearing stories about his hot rod cars

38. hearing stories about some of his recklessness as a youth and thankful that God protected him

39. played jokes on Kirsten and I - remember how you showed us you could make the road reflectors stop working?

40. comforted us when it stormed...you and mom used a kids devotional about storms that always made me feel better.

41. let us try things even if we might fail - I once wanted to try my hand at the pop up camper crank, and let go when it was too hard; luckily no severe damage done.

42. helped me buy my first car

43. surprised me with my first horn

44. supported me in my decision to pursue music as a major in college

45. helped me pay for college (and mom too!)

46. drove me long distances to visit colleges and later drove long distance to Miami, FL for grad school

47. drove me to band and other HS activities

48. stood up for me when a disagreement about grades occurred with a HS teacher

49. forgives me when I mess up his birthday date (I'm paranoid about it now!)

50. a good euchre player

51. an Ohio State fan

52. thick hair - never going to go bald (thank Jeremy for this one!)

53. itches his chest before bed (again, Jeremy)

54. makes a funny "ack" sound after brushing his teeth (Jeremy)

55. drives long distances to visit us

56. manages to stay close even though we are far away

57. a great Papa

58. fun to play with; see pictures below of great play time

59. his kisses are scruffy

60. loves us unconditionally!

  1. Wow, you guys really know how to tug at a tender heart! What an awesome way to be remembered on my 60th birthday. I wrote your mother a love letter today and told her among other things how blessed we are with such a wonderful family. I LOVE YOU GUYS SO MUCH! - DAD/PAPA
