Rainy Monday

On Monday of our vacation, it was very rainy. Luckily, north of Gulf Shores, there is a Tanger Outlet. We did a little bit of shopping - Trevor and Daddy got some new shoes and sandals. The rain let up, and it appeared to be clearing out. After Trevor rode the carousel at the outlets, we decided to head up the road to Alligator Alley. Unfortunately, we didn't think to call ahead, and when we got there, they were closed due to the bad weather.

So we decided to opt for Plan B which was to drive out to Fort Morgan. Fort Morgan was a civil war battery built in 1834, and is on the western most tip of Alabama. It was a really cool place, and amazing that it was built 176 years ago!

The tunnel leading into Fort Morgan;
what lies behind this hill is impressive and massive!

walking through the tunnel and
checking out all the bricks!

once through the tunnel you are greeted by this amazing entrance

looking south - away from the main entrance

north side of the entrance;
the left side wall is where the tunnel runs

amazing brick rooms that lead one into another;
they made ammunition here

center courtyard of the battery -

up on the lookout areas

along the top were blackberry bushes full of ripe berries;
we enjoyed picking them for Daddy to eat!

Trevor liked picking some of the red ones!

looking toward the gulf - Dauphin Island car ferry
and oil rig in the background. We were surprised at how close
this oil rig was to shore. There were several other rigs also in the vicinity.

There was a nice beach area around the fort. We stopped for a photo op!
