New flower bed

During the beautiful weather last week, I redesigned and planted a new bed on the west side of our house.  Previously, there were very overgrown, leggy  lilacs flanking the chimney.  Unfortunately they were planted to close to the house, and were growing out at awkward angles to reach the sun.  My dad cut them down while he was here over Labor Day.  Since Labor Day, we visited a nursery to try and get some ideas.  I had planned on having someone come out and do a drawing, but Lowe's put all of their nursery stock on clearance.  I got some great deals, and I think it looks pretty good! Excited to see how the plants do, grow and fill in.

In front of the chimney is a Leyland cypress, and behind it are two grass that can eventually be moved when the Cypress gets big.  On either side of the Cypress is a beautiful bush called a Ninebark.  It is a dark wine color with maple shaped leave.

To the right of the chimney, are several perennials planted around another tall grass, a dwarf varigated weigela, a small heather plant, and three small rhododendrons in front of the gas meter.  On the corner is a Snow Fountain Weeping Cherry.  I've always wanted to have a weeping cherry off the corner of our house!

Now we just need to get mulch and the project will be complete.  I think I planted around 20 plants, and am thankful that Jeremy helped me dig quite a few holes.  Otherwise, it would have taken me several days to complete.

  1. Erin, Absolutely beautiful!!! You don't need anybody to help you out as you've always been a "wonderful landscaper!" And I'll be forever in your debt for straightening out "our mess" 2 years ago! You would absolutely love all the beds now, but your's are gorgeous, much like you! Love you, Debby
