Adam & Eve

This past Sunday, Trevor blew us away with another of his bible re-enactments.  The church Sunday School curriculum is currently based in Genesis.  When we dropped Trevor off at class, he asked his teacher what they would be learning. When she said "Adam and Eve,"  he replied, "again!"  But obviously it is sticking and making an impact on him!

After lunch Trevor asked us to come outside with him, and I wasn't actually sure what he was up to.  He got the apples out of the refrigerator by himself and had his stuffed animal snake.  As I was following him in the yard, it finally dawned on me what he wanted to do.

So we placed the snake and the apples in the tree, and thus began the play.

The snake and the forbidden fruit

Just had to add this picture because
he is a cutie!
Trevor started at the very beginning.  Here is is speaking things into creation and clapping his hands.  I think he got almost all of creation.  He said "let there be light, let there be darkness, let there be sky and water, let there be mountains and trees.  Let there be animals.  Look at what all I have created. (Gen 1:1-31)"

But wait (indicated with the pointed finger)...let us create man.

To enact the creation of man, Trevor ran across the yard to where we have a dead grass patch.  According to Trevor, God created Adam out of the sand so the grassy patch represented sand.  When he was created, he stood up and even dusted himself off!  (Technically God formed Adam out of the dust of the ground, but sand is very similar! Gen 2:7)

Being created

Standing up
Trevor then came back across the yard to our little Garden of Eden.  Here he is naming all the animals as God commanded him to do (Gen 2:19).
.

Tending the garden and naming all of the animals was a lot of work, and Adam needed a suitable helper (Gen 2:20-23).  So Trevor explained how God put Adam in a deep sleep, took a rib and created a helper - Eve.

Waking up & stretching -
I was Eve so there isn't a picture of Eve :)
Now God had instructed Adam not to eat from a certain tree in the garden, but Eve was lured by the wicked serpent.  Here Trevor was the voice of the serpent, and he did a good job convincing me that it was okay to eat the fruit of this tree.  He said "it's okay to eat this fruit, you won't die.  You will be like God."  So I, Eve, took down an apple and ate it.  Then Adam came by, and I convinced him to eat it (Gen 3:1-7)

Adam and Eve then heard God walking in the garden, and ran and hid from him (Gen 3:8-24).  So Trevor and I ran across the yard and hid behind trees.  Jeremy was across the yard, and was the voice of God calling to Adam and Eve.  We, Adam and Eve, eventually walked back with heads hung in humility for disobeying God.

Talking with God
and explaining what had happened
Adam and Eve were then banished from the Garden, but did go on to have a family (Gen 4:1).  Trevor then changed roles and became Cain and Daddy was Abel.  Cain was jealous of his brother, lured him out to the fields and killed him.  So Trevor acted out this part, and then returned home.  Jeremy played God again and asked Cain where Abel was (Gen 4:2-16).  Cain (Trevor) denied knowing where Abel was, but God knew what he had done.  Cain was punished and sent away (Gen 4:16), and Trevor left walking across the yard.  At this point, he said "the end."

So amazed at Trevor's attention to detail and his understanding of the story.  Once again thankful for his receptive heart, teacher's who teach the word of God and teach in a manner that is understandable and makes an impact.  It is a blessing to watch Trevor grow in his knowledge of God and Jesus Christ.

  1. That is amazing that he has internalized all those details! Very creative use of his imagination as well. Thanks for sharing the pictures & narrative!
