It just so happened that I was assigned to volunteer at pre-school on Evan's Birthday. When I realized this, I told Mrs. Wilson that it was his birthday and would it be okay if we celebrated. She, of course, said "no problem!." During the whole month of April, Evan really looked forward to our volunteer day!
At pre-school, birthdays are a big deal. The birthday boy or girl gets to do all the jobs that day, and are super special! Mrs. Wilson reminds the other kiddos that it is the birthday person's "day to sparkle!" I made Evan a special painted wooden "3" necklace to wear since all the other kids at school get such a necklace on their birthdays.

A few of the special jobs in the morning include feeding the turtles, doing the calendar, and figuring out the weather. Evan did very well at all of those jobs, and had a little bit of help from Trevor.

Mrs. Wilson is fantastic with the kids, and very energetic! She leads the kids every morning in counting toes by 10s, doing stretches to get the early morning wiggles out, and other silly activities.

Tuesday mornings happen to be music day, and the kids love it! Mrs. Davis, the assistant teacher, leads the music and she does a great job.

After music, the kids head up stairs for their work and play time. During this time, the kids must decide if they want to do their work first or play first. Evan played for most of the time in the sand area and with trains, but he did stop and do a coloring sheet. I was helping the kids color a spring page that would go in their "look at me" books.
Finally, snack time arrived, and we brought Iron Man cupcakes. Another tradition is the presentation of a "cake" with candles. Then the Birthday Turtle takes a walk down the table to the birthday kid while it plays music.
