When we first arrived, we weren't sure where to head. Somehow we ended up on the lower level which featured an air display and construction display. Of course, both of these were big hits. Trevor LOVED the air tubes which were quite fun. He could put puff balls or scraves in the tubes, and turn different valves open or shut to change the path the items took. There was also an American flag, which when raised, would get blown in the air.
The construction area was full of fun things to do. Trevor shoveled pea gravel, tried his hand at a kid sized manual excavator, and got to sit in a real skid-loader. Evan just took it all in.
After all this play, we took a quick break for lunch. When we came back to the museum, we stayed on the main level. Much to our surprise, when we arrived back, the St. Louis Blues mascot was there. Trevor was so excited, and wanted to give him a million hugs. Later in the day, he even chased down the mascot for one more hug!
Near the main entrance is a St. Louis Blues room complete with hockey goal and water organ. Trevor and I tried to plunk out the St. Louis blues tune. Also near here is the bubble room. It was kind of crowded so we didn't spend a whole lot of time in there.
Next we headed back the Children's Village which is an awesome display. But on the way, we went through the Math Hallway. They had several activities that were above Trevor's comprehension, but he did enjoy the time trial display.
Evan was a great sport all day long, taking in all the activity from his stroller. They did have a section called "Baby & Me" for children under 2. He was glad to have room to stretch his legs and play with some balls.
The Children's Village was super cool with many activities. The whole area is very interactive and imaginative. All parts of a village were represented: car shop, house, restaurant, electric company, bank, grocery and waterworks. There was even a fishing pond. Below Trevor and Daddy are completing a circuit to make a light bulb come on in the electric company. Then they headed to the grocery.
The most popular activity in this area was the fishing pond. They had cane poles with magnets on the end. The "fish" were big lures with metal tips. Once you caught your fish, you took it across the village, dropped it into another pond, and then could watch it float back down stream. The stream was covered with plexiglass. This whole area had such kid friendly and smart activities...I wonder who comes up with these ideas?
Another popular attraction was the car shop. Here you could take parts off the car (like wheels, muffler, etc...) and pretend to fill the windshield washer fluid and transmission.
Trevor's favorite spot, of course, was waterworks. They had a large U shaped water table with all sorts of water toys. We visited this area earlier in the afternoon and ended our day here. Afterwards, we strolled through the front gardens and enjoyed the warm spring like weather. It was a really fun family day.
